Beauty Tips for Women: Essie – In The Cab-ana

Today I’m sharing a review/manicure of Essie In The Cab-ana.  In The Cab-ana is part of the Essie Resort 2013 collection.

Essie In The Cab-ana is an amazing bright blue/teal-ish color; it is a perfect summertime polish.  The formula was wonderful and only took two coats to reach opacity.  This color is one of those happy colors that put a smile on my face.  I decided to do an accent finger using Smitten Polish – Confection.  I loved how to combination looked.

I decided I wanted to add something more to this manicure.  I opted to add some mustaches.  I had picked up these nail art mustache stickers at Claire’s.  It came out very whimsical.

Overall, I’m totally in love with In The Cab-ana.  Everything about this polish was right.  Plus my four mustachio friends never looked better sitting on this perfect blue.  I give Essie In The Cab-ana, 5 brains.

Beauty Tips for Women: Autism Awareness Manicure

The month of April is Autism Awareness month and the color for this cause is blue.  This is my first time doing blue nails for autism awareness, so I kept it simple.

I started off with two coats of Orly Boho Bonnet on my index and thumb.  I reviewed Boho Bonnet in a previous manicure, you can check it out here: http://bluebrainreviews.com/beauty-tips-for-women-orlys-boho-bonnetpeaceful-opposition-manicure-review/.  On the rest I used two coats of Orly High On Hope.  High On Hope is a navy blue crème with multi-chrome shimmer.  Application was easy.  I tried my best to capture how lovely the shimmer is in this polish.

I was pleased with the color combination but wanted to add a little something more.  I decided to stamp my thumb with Bundle Monster BM-321 ribbon image.  I used Cheeky CH-13 on my ring finger to stamp a puzzle design. Pardon the quality of the stamping plate pictures. I was having trouble with my camera.

I used High On Hope to stamp these images.  I was pleasantly surprised at how well High On Hope stamped.

Overall I was pleased with how this manicure came out.

Beauty Tips for Women: Green Manicure

Lately I have been on a green color kick.  I guess I’m still in the St. Patrick’s Day mood.

The polishes I used for this manicure are China Glaze – Unpredictable, Pure Ice – Draped In Satin, and NYX – Enchanted Forest.

China Glaze – Unpredictable is a lovely combination of blue/green/gold/teal duochrome.  Application was wonderful. I wish I had done this manicure completely using this color rather than using it as an accent finger.  For the rest of my fingers I used Pure Ice – Draped In Satin.  It is a metallic white, which almost comes across silvery.  Application was a nightmare.  The formula was very streaky.  I tried applying three thin coats, then two thicker coats but had the same results. It was very disappointing.

To cover up the streakiness of Pure Ice – Draped In Satin I decided to use NYX – Enchanted Forest.  I fell in love with this polish when I saw it.  I thought it would be great for layering.  It is a jelly based polish packed with different size green glitters.  Application was nice and I was able to get the big hexi glitter pieces without having to fish around for them, which was great.

Overall I thought this manicure was a bit of a fail.  I loved how China Glaze – Unpredictable and NYX – Enchanted Forest looked and applied but didn’t like how the combination of Pure Ice – Draped In Satin looked with NYX – Enchanted Forest; not to mention the application issues I had with Pure Ice – Draped In Satin.  Live and learn for the next time.
