Beauty Tips for Women: Tropical Manicure (1)/ Essie First Timer

I’m trying to come up with some tropical themed manicures for Hukilau 2013 happening in June.  Hukilau is a Tiki festival that occurs in Florida.

I started off with two coats of Essie First Timer.  First Timer is a lovely mint green.  I didn’t have any problems with the formula.  It truly is a wonderful summer color.

To further make this manicure pop I decided I would stamp and add some glitter.  I used Cheeky Jumbo Plate 2 – Tropical Holiday and Cheeky CH7.

I applied Sally Hansen Teal-y Cool on my ring finger.  I stamped the images with Konad white polish.  I finished with Sech Vite.

I was very happy with how it turned out.

Beauty Tips for Women: Essie – Under Where? Nail Bling Manicure

I recently got my hands on the Essie Resort collection 2013 mini set.  I have been debating how to best try using the nail tape I had recently purchased and Essie Under Where? jumped out as the color to use in combination with pink nail tape.  I also remember I had some hearts to try out too.

So here is my first attempt with “nail bling”.  This is a very simple and modest attempt.  I started off with two coats of Essie Under Where?  I was a bit disappointed by the formula.  I had major issues with streaking and patches.  I have never had an issue with Essie formulas, so this was a bit baffling, perhaps it is because it is a mini.

Working with the nail tape provided to be a bit tricky.  A lot of patience is needed.  I cut the tape as close to the edge of my nail so I wouldn’t have excess hanging off. Applying the heart decorations also required a bit of patience.  I tried my best to press the edges of the heart down so they could stick; but it is a useless attempt being that nails are curved and these decorations are flat.  I applied a generous coat of Sech Vite.

This manicure only lasted a day.  The edges of the nail tape started lifting up.  I tried to fix it by pressing it back into place and applying topcoat to the area.  The hearts stayed on but I was bothered by how they looked from the side because you could clearly see that the edges were not stuck to the nail.  I had mixed feelings about this manicure due to those issues.  Loved the concept and color combination but I need to read up on how to best apply these decorations so that the manicure will last.  So if you have any tips to share leave them in the comments.
