Beauty Tips for Women: Christmas Manicure for Kids

My four year old asked me to do her nails for her Christmas party at preschool in which Santa is going to pay a visit.  Even though I am sick with a horrible cold I couldn’t turn her down.  This manicure was all her design.  She wanted candy canes, Santa Claus, and white snow.  My mind nearly exploded with the request and this nasty head cold I have going on.

Here are the polishes I used to make this manicure: Wet n Wild Hallucinate, Wet n Wild French White Crème, Milani stripper in White Canvas, China Glaze Ruby Pumps, Piggy Polish Jingle Belle, and Cina Holiday Cheer decals. Nail Art Polish Beauty tips for Women 283

Her pinky got two coats of French White Crème. Her ring finger got two coats of Jingle Belle.  The rest of her fingers got two coats of Ruby Pumps.  I let everything dry.  Luck was on our side with finding a Santa Claus decal that fit her ring finger.  Her pinky got a coat of Hallucinate.  Using the stripper I set about making the stripes.  This was a bit challenging because of her nail size but I did my best. She loves her manicure and is very proud of her design.   I’m glad to have gotten through it with this head cold and very pleased on how it came out.  This is a very simple design that your kid will love.

Beauty Tips for Women: Mermaid Tale Inspired Manicure

I recently picked up some neon and glitter polish from Milani that called an ocean / mermaid feel to them when placed in combination.  The colors are Milani Neon Fresh Teal, Milani Neon Blue Dude, and Milani Teal (glitter polish).  I decided I wanted to try a Mermaid Tale or Mermaid Scales manicure.

I totally forgot to take pictures of the polish and plates involved.  It simply has been just one of those weeks.

Since the two polishes are neon colors I decided to do a basecoat of white polish.  I did a gradient using Fresh Teal and Blue Dude on thumb, index, and pinky. Middle finger got a coat of Fresh Teal and ring finger got a coat of Blue Dude.  I did this because I wanted to see if there would be a difference in the way the glitter polish would look on each color (there was no difference at all).  I was a bit torn between the two images I had for scales.  I could either use Winstonia W111, which has a large scales image, or Cheeky plate B, which has a smaller scales image.  I decided to try the look out on my left hand before committing to a final look.

I wasn’t thrilled the way Winstonia W111 looked when compared to Cheeky’s image.  The scales effect I was looking for was achieved more with the image from Cheeky.

Below is a series of photos of the completed manicure.  Unfortunately the gradient effect was lost under the stamping.  I only did two coats of the gradient thinking that would be enough but clearly to make it pop under the stamping I would have needed more coats.

Overall I loved the final results.  I’m totally in love with Milani Teal; it is an amazing glitter polish.  The way it shifts under light between the teal, blue and silver glitters is beautiful.  I’m still on the fence with Fresh Teal and Blue Dude.  When compared to other neon colors they just don’t pop.  Another con is that they both stained my nails horribly. Setting aside those two things, it turned out great.

Beauty Tips for Women: Christmas in July Polish Haul

I wanted to share some deals I had come across in the month of July making it Christmas in July.

Sally Beauty store was holding a buy one get one deal on China Glaze, Orly and Gelish polish.  I had read online some complaints about some Sally stores not advertising the sale with any signs therefore not honoring the deal, so the advice was to print out the deal or be able to pull it up on your phone.  So armed with this info I headed to my Sally Beauty store and as expected the sale was not advertised anywhere.  I pulled up the advertisement on my phone and showed the cashier and asked if they were honoring this deal, she said yes and called over a manager who was not to happy about honoring the deal.

I managed to pick up two China Glaze polishes, Hawaiian Punch and Love Letters, for only $3.29. Both were on clearance so it turned out to be an amazing deal.

After a very stressful day, I decided to take a stroll at Sally Beauty store but anther location with no intentions of purchasing anything, just some healthy window shopping.  In their clearance section was a China Glaze Christmas 2012 set for $2.99.  I could not believe my eyes.  I certainly didn’t expect to see these sets again and certainly not for that price.  I had missed out on getting a set, or perhaps all the sets, when they came out so this certainly was awesome.  The polishes in the set are Red Satin and Winter Holly.

The second deal is on Milani polish.  I don’t know how long this clearance has been going on at Target but they had a good amount of Milani cosmetics on clearance and all of the Milani polishes are included.  Here are the colors listed from left to right: White On The Spot, Teal, Jiffy Orange, Fresh Teal, Gold, Gems, and Hot Pink. All the polishes I picked up were $1.98.  A great deal.  So definitely check out your Target store to see if they also are having this sale.

Looking forward to using all these colors in manicures.
