Target Trick or Treat Candy Loot Scoop Kitty Cat and Pumpkin

Last year Target came out with Trick or Treat Candy Loot Scoop which is a cool twist on a Halloween candy bag. The Target website description “Loot Scoop is great for trick or treaters of all ages but is easiest to carry for the younger kids. The fabric bag is sturdy and printed with Target’s exclusive Halloween design”. The cost is $5.

The Loot Scoops were hard to find in stores last year but I managed to get the Pumpkin. Pumpkin is an orange monster hand with a pumpkin design on the bag. It certainly was easier for my kid to carry. It was stuffed to overflowing and we didn’t experience any tears in the fabric.

People got a good laugh when dropping candies into the hand.

As you can imagine I was on the lookout this year to get my hands on another Loot Scoop for the kids. Being that I am a nail polish enthusiast, I was excited when my youngest kid found the Kitty Cat. Kitty Cat is women’s hand with a pink ring and glitter nail polish and a cat design on the bag. Love it!

It makes a great addition as a costume prop.  I’m trying to convince my oldest kid to let me paint the nails on the orange monster hand with some glitter polish, perhaps green.   beauty-tips-for-women-710

According to the Target website they have come out with a Skeleton, Disney Princess, Kylo Ren version. They also revamped the Pumpkin which now has a black bag.

Homemade Halloween Costumes for Kids: Custom T-Shirt

I recently posted up an article on making homemade Halloween costumes for kids and this is the second part to that article.  So my youngest is set with her Mickey Pirate costume for Halloween.  The question still remained, what would my 6 year old daughter be.  She decided this year that she did not want a homemade Halloween costume but rather a store purchased one.

However, this week she changed her mind by telling me that she still wanted a homemade Halloween costume, well sort of, she wanted a homemade Halloween t-shirt … lol … then she hands me her sketch for the homemade Halloween t-shirt.  Here is a picture of her sketch.

So my job was to turn this sketch into reality.  Thankfully last year I had picked up an orange t-shirt on clearance at Michaels for $1.  Although, the only problem is the size of the t-shirt, an adult size small; so that meant I would have to re-size the t-shirt to fit her.  So here are the tools I used:  my computer, Cricut Create, a Cricut mat, Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software, a brayer, Steam-A-Seam 2, Fray Check, one orange t-shirt and black fabric.

Once we settled on the design for the “Halloween Cat Witch” t-shirt, I did a test cut using paper to see how it looked and fit on the t-shirt.  I then placed the Steam-A-Seam onto the black fabric and the used the Cricut Create and Sure Cuts A Lot software to cut the images out.

I then ironed the images onto the t-shirt.  I applied the Fray Check to the cut out so that the design will not fray when washed.  Here is what it looked like as the adult size small.

The next step was to re-size the t-shirt.  Basically it involved taking the t-shirt apart and cutting away the excess fabric and sewing it together again.

The final result is one homemade Halloween kids t-shirt, the “Halloween Cat Witch”.  I’m so proud of her for designing it.

Homemade Halloween Costumes for Kids: Mickey Mouse Pirate

Although this site is mainly devoted to beauty tips for women on occasion I like to share some other stuff I’m into like sewing.  I’m very much a beginner at sewing; so this is no project runway type stuff.

My youngest, 3, wants to be a pirate.  You think no problem with that, except she wants to be a Mickey Mouse Pirate.  I can’t just step into the Disney Store and pick one up.  They do have some Pirates of the Caribbean costumes but they are mainly for boys and they don’t have Mickey Mouse on them.  She wants Mickey Mouse all over this costume.  So this would have to be a homemade Halloween costume.  I couldn’t find a vest, so one had to be made.  Here is a front and back picture.  A simple vest nothing crazy.

I then need to create the images that I would use for the vest.  Below is a picture of what I used: my computer, Cricut Create, a Cricut mat, Sure Cuts A Lot 2 software, a brayer, Steam-A-Seam 2, Fray Check, and white and red fabric.

Once I created my images on the computer, I ironed on the Steam-A-Seam to the pieces of white and red fabric.  Used the Cricut Create and Sure Cuts A Lot 2 to cut out the images.

I then ironed on the images to the vest to create the Mickey Mouse Pirate look. I applied Fray Check so that the images would not fray.

The pirate hat was a bit trickier.  I picked up the hat at Clarie’s.  This is what it looked like before the full transformation into the Mickey Mouse Pirate hat.  I wanted to give it the Jack Sparrow feel by adding some dangly things to it and I would have loved to try my hand at dreadlocks but I don’t have the time for that.  So yarn pieces braided up was the best I could do.

I still needed to get Mickey on the pirate hat.  The idea I came up with was to cut Mickey Pirate out of a foam sheet and sew him onto the hat.  I couldn’t use fabric because it didn’t cover up the skull, it was too transparent.  The foam sheet cut out worked like a charm.

Here is the Mickey Mouse Pirate or as she says the Mickey Pirate costume for Halloween this year.  I picked up the sword at Target and the sash was made from red fabric.  So to complete the outfit she will have on a white t-shirt and black pants.    Now if only I had time to make myself one too but I have to work on my oldest daughter’s costume.
